A retired Head of Department at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH), he remains an influential figure within the Wits Neurological Surgery Circuit, where he teaches, supervises, and mentors the next generation of neurosurgeons.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1987 from the University of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and later completed specialist neurosurgical training at CMJAH. His expertise spans general and complex neurosurgery, with a clinical footprint across both public service and private practice, including the Wits Donald Gordon Faculty Practice in Parktown.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Mayoyo embodies resilience and purpose. After sustaining a T2 spinal cord injury, he navigated profound personal and professional transformation with courage, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to meaning.
