Gladys Bogoshi

We welcome as a speaker,Gladys Bogoshi, a Physiotherapist from MEDUNSA in 1986. She started working at Leratong hospital as a junior Physiotherapist. In 1989, transferred to Ga Rankuwa hospital where she moved up the rank to acting HOD. In 1995, she moved to Johannesburg Tertiary Hospital to pursue her master’s studies, eventually promoted to HOD.In 2003, she transferred Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, to take up a new position as a Senior Clinical Executive, the first medical manager who was not a doctor in the country. 

In 2006, she was headhunted and appointed CEO of Helen Joseph Hospital. In 2013, she was promoted to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH), after being headhunted again. Her job included managing a staff compliment of more than 5 500, and a budget of over R3 billion. She was was also leading and coordinating activities 14 cluster referral hospitals in City of Johannesburg, Ekhuruleni, Westrand districts and some of the North West hospitals for 13 years, until her retirement in February 2026.

She spent over a decade in many National Technical Committee since the dawn of democracy in South Africa in 1994, to transform and develop and inclusive policies to serve the people of South Africa after merging all homelands and creation of the current nine provinces. To mention a few, she was a member of:

 

• subcommittee of developing the new regulatory framework where the new Public Service Regulations replaced the Public Service Act.

•  technical subcommittee on Codes of Renumeration (CORE) for therapeutic Services including the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD). 

•  technical Committee the advice the Minister of Health on the governance and executive structure, the delegation of authority of central hospitals as part of preparations for the roll out of the National Health Insurance (NHI) fund, for Central Hospitals. 

•  Professional Board of Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Biokinetics as an expert to review Physiotherapy curriculum in all South African Universities. 

• external examiner for third- and fourth-year exams on many occasions at MEDUNSA, University of Durban Westville and Wits University. 

•   Health Professional council of South Africa: Professional Board of Radiographers, Clinical Technology as the Ministerial representative. 

• Member: 50 years SMU Physiotherapy celebration executive committee: (2022-2023)
